The term "Political Correctness" appeared in a U.S. Supreme Court decision about the boundaries of federal jurisdiction in 1793. It has been used to describe what is politically wise, and it has been employed as ironic self-mockery.
However, leftists in the 1970s and 1980s used the term as self-critical, ironic satire. It used as a joke among leftists.
Later, the term was started to be used as a criticism of New Left modern in the late 20th century and popularized by a number of articles in The New York Times and other media.
